About this QR code
A QR code that opens a WhatsApp chat
A WhatsApp QR code uses a wa.me link made from your number. When a phone scans it, WhatsApp opens a chat with that number, with your pre-written message already in the box if you set one. The person only has to press send.
Neither you nor this page needs a WhatsApp account to make the code, and what you type stays in your browser. The number does need to be registered with WhatsApp for the chat to open properly.
For people who prefer an ordinary text, an SMS QR code opens the messaging app instead.
Where it is used
How businesses and people use it
Customer questions. A code in a shop window or on a product box opens a chat with “Hi, I have a question about…” already typed.
Takeaway and orders. A restaurant can open a message that starts “Hello, I would like to order”.
Freelancers and services. Put one on a van, a business card or a portfolio so enquiries arrive in a chat.
Property and classified listings. A listing flyer can open a message that mentions the property or the item.
Event help desks. A code on a programme or a badge reaches an organiser quickly.
Voice instead of chat. If a caller would be better served by speaking, a phone QR code opens the dialer.
How to use it
Three simple steps
1. Enter the number
Type the WhatsApp number with its country code. Plus signs, spaces and dashes are removed for you.
2. Add a message
Optionally write the message that should be waiting in the chat box. Keep it short and specific.
3. Download and test
Save the code and scan it. Check that the chat opens with the right person and message.
The details
How the number must be written
WhatsApp links need the number in full international format with digits only: no plus sign, no spaces, and no leading zeros or 00. This tool tidies that up. Typing +1 (555) 123-4567 becomes 15551234567, and 0044 7911 123456 becomes 447911123456. The country code is essential, so a local number without it will not open the right chat. The tool expects between 8 and 15 digits.
The message is encoded so that characters like &, ? and emoji arrive correctly, and it is only a draft that the person can edit before sending. Long pre-written messages make a denser code, so keep yours brief.
When someone scans the code on a phone with WhatsApp installed, it opens the app. Without the app, the link typically leads to a page that explains how to continue. If the number is not registered with WhatsApp, the chat cannot start.
The font caption
Tell people to message you
A caption like “Chat with us on WhatsApp” removes any hesitation about scanning. Choose a typeface from the ProFont library that matches your branding and it is added under the code in the PNG. The SVG holds the code only.

Questions
WhatsApp QR code FAQ
Do I need a WhatsApp account to make the code?
No. You only need the number. The person who scans needs WhatsApp, or can use the web version, to chat.
How do I format the number?
Use the full international number with the country code. Spaces, brackets, dashes and a leading + are removed for you.
Does the message send automatically?
No. It appears in the chat box and the person can change it and press send themselves.
Does it work for WhatsApp Business numbers?
Yes. The link works for any number registered on WhatsApp, personal or business.
Can the code stop working?
It does not expire. It works as long as the number remains registered with WhatsApp.
