Redacted is a display font designed to mimic the appearance of classified or censored text, where characters are replaced by solid black bars. It has no readable letterforms in the traditional sense. Instead, every character renders as a filled rectangular block, giving text the look of a document that has been heavily blacked out for security or privacy reasons. The visual effect is immediate and striking, communicating concealment, secrecy, or the withholding of information at a glance. Its personality is intentionally mysterious and institutional, leaning into the aesthetics of government documents, legal redaction, and surveillance culture.

Because Redacted produces unreadable text by design, its practical applications are specific but effective. Which languages does Redacted support?

Redacted includes 2 character sets:

• Latin: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and other Western European languages
• Latin Extended: Central and Eastern European languages such as Polish, Czech, Turkish, Romanian and Hungarian

It does not include Cyrillic or Greek characters, so it can't set Russian, Ukrainian or Greek text.

Can I use Redacted commercially?

Yes, it's free for personal and commercial use. Redacted is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. You can use it in logos, websites, apps, videos, printed products and merchandise without paying or asking permission. The one thing you can't do is sell the font file on its own.
