Inria Serif is a humanist serif typeface with a slightly academic, refined quality. It was designed for the French research institute INRIA, and that origin shows in its character: precise and structured, but with enough warmth in its letterforms to avoid feeling cold or institutional. It has moderate contrast between thick and thin strokes, well-defined serifs, and an overall texture that reads comfortably at both display sizes and smaller body text. The italic variant has a notably distinct personality from the roman, with more personality and movement, making it genuinely useful rather than just a slanted version of the upright.
