Unkempt is a handwritten display font with a rough, sketchy quality that looks like it was drawn quickly with a marker or thick pen. The letterforms are irregular and slightly wobbly, with strokes that vary in weight and edges that feel deliberately unfinished. It has a casual, energetic personality that sits somewhere between a child's handwriting and street-art lettering. The font feels spontaneous and tactile, and it carries a sense of humor or irreverence without being completely illegible. It works best at larger sizes where its texture and imperfections become part of the visual appeal rather than a readability problem.

Unkempt is a practical choice for projects that need to communicate approachability, creativity, or a DIY attitude. A children's book or educational app could use it for titles and chapter headings to feel playful without being babyish. A craft beer brand or artisan food product might use it on packaging or menu boards to signal a handmade, local identity. It also works well in editorial or poster design for events like music festivals, comedy shows, or art fairs where an informal, hand-done aesthetic reinforces the overall vibe. In all these cases it should be reserved for short display text rather than body copy.

Best suited for: Unkempt works well for short display text in branding, packaging, posters, and editorial design where an informal, handmade aesthetic strengthens the message.

Design considerations: The font's irregular letterforms and variable stroke weight are intentional design features that enhance visual interest at display sizes. Both available weights offer flexibility for hierarchy and emphasis while maintaining the sketchy character throughout.

Pairing guidance: Pair Unkempt with a geometric or humanist sans-serif like Lato for body text and supporting information, reserve Caveat for secondary display roles where handwritten texture complements without competing, and consider Fredoka One for accent elements that echo Unkempt's informal energy at smaller scales.
