Sedan is a traditional serif typeface with a classic, book-like quality. Its letterforms are well-proportioned with moderate contrast between thick and thin strokes, giving it a grounded and readable character. It carries a formal tone without feeling stiff, sitting somewhere between a workhorse text face and a display serif. The overall impression is one of reliability and understated authority, making it easy to read at moderate sizes while still holding enough personality to work in display contexts.
Sedan is a strong fit for editorial and publishing projects where readable, trustworthy text is a priority, such as online magazines, literary journals, or news-style websites. It works well for law firms, financial services, or academic institutions that want a professional appearance without resorting to overused alternatives. It can also serve as a heading font for blogs or content-heavy sites where a classic serif helps establish tone and hierarchy without overwhelming the layout.
Best suited for: Editorial layouts, professional websites, and content-rich publications requiring legible serif typography that conveys formality and trustworthiness across body and heading roles.
Design considerations: Sedan's moderate stroke contrast and balanced proportions support comfortable reading at text sizes while maintaining enough character for display use. The italic variant expands versatility for emphasis and differentiation within layouts without requiring a secondary typeface.
Pairing guidance: Pair Sedan with Cormorant Garamond for an all-serif approach emphasizing editorial elegance, Source Sans 3 for contemporary contrast between serif headings and sans-serif body text, or DM Mono to introduce technical or code-focused content with consistent formality.
